Jared on CFMX vs. PHP Part II

Sep 22, 2005

In this sequel to his CF != PHP post, Jared Rypka-Hauer tries to get into PHP again and discovers why he just doesn't like the language. And then, on the Basic Syntax page of the PHP official documentation, he finds some tag-based code that makes him exclaim: "I thought PHP gear-heads didn't like CF because CFMX is 'an ugly, tag-based' language... so why work so hard to make tag-based things even uglier?"

The conclusion to this saga? A programmer must be comfortable with the language he uses. Jared has the right to like CFMX and to think PHP is ugly. And a PHP programmer has every right to think CF is ugly and PHP is beautiful (though given the code snippet Jared found, he just can't see it.)

And They Say CFMX is Ugly ... (CFObjective, September 6, 2005)
