The ColdFusion Mafia, the unofficial ColdFusion Distributed.Net team is looking for more members to help crack RC5-64. Although the team is currently only ranked around 2000 (out of 11,485 teams), we have the people and the power to make a much better showing.
According to the distributed.net website, "distributed.net's computing power has grown to become equivalent to that of more than 160000 PII 266Mhz computers working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year." This power is harnessed to collectively attempt to crack an RC5-64 code-at a current rate of 127.24 gigakeys per second!
The team, created by Cameron Childress, has been around for a while, but so far has only accumulated 6 members. Each member has downloaded a small, well-behaved executable that constantly runs in the background on the member 's machine. You hardly notice it. The machine becomes part of a Borg-like hive that tests thousands of possible key combinations per second.
The person whose computer finds the key will win $1000, and so will her team. So come and join us-lets make an unforgettable showing on distributed.net! To join, visit the Distributed.net RC5-64 page. From there, you can download the correct client (http://www.distributed.net/download/clients.html) and set up an account. Once you're onboard, you can specify the ColdFusion Mafia as your Distributed.Net team. To join the team, have your email address and password handy and visit the ColdFusion Mafia's stats summary page and click on "I Want to Join This Team" on the bottom of the page.
