CFUN-02: Reactions and Statistics

Jun 28, 2002
CFUN-02 rated highly, in the number and general quality of its attendees. Some relevant statistics:
  • Of the 298 people who preregistered, only 24 did not attend.
  • It's no surprise that most attendees were from within 15 miles of the conference. About 60% were from Maryland, Virginia or Washington DC (38% from MD, 24% from VA, and 7% from DC). Another 4% were from PA and NJ and 24% hailed from other states and provinces. One member came from Alaska, a distance of 3,214 miles!
  • Results from the conference survey indicate a balanced spread of beginning, intermediate and advanced developers. Twenty percent of those who filled out the survey classified themselves as beginners, 44% as medium, 25% as gurus, and 11% didn't classify themselves at all.

The reactions of developers at the conference were positive across the board:

"Michael Smith put on a outstanding conference. I just wanted to thank Michael again for all his hard work and if you haven't caught Michael Dinowitz's Presentation on Regular Expression or Hal Helms on MVC's and Kevin Towes on Flash Remoting see when you can get these guys down to your CFUG. ... All the presentations were excellent. I can't forget Adam Churvis, who, if anyone has not seen him recently has shaved off his beard and cut his hair. You wouldn't recognize him. All in all a lot of fun."

-- Ray Bayly, Lead ColdFusion Developer, IMD

"Just wanted to say thanks to Michael Smith and all the speakers. I think the conference went off very well and I got a lot of great information from it. And as always, a good time!"
-- Gabe Roffman, CTO, eTesters (www.etesters.com)

"Kudos to Michael Smith and the TeraTech team for organizing such a terrific event!"

"Devcon is certainly fun and special in many ways, but it's really, really nice to have a chance to catch up with my CF friends face-to-face more often than once a year!"
-- Tobe Goldfinger, jdt technologies, ltd., Co-Manager NYCFUG

"A great conference. A lot of traffic. I'm sure we got a lot of new contacts."
-- Dominic Ploufle, Fusetalk (Sponsor)

"A lot of people came through, very interested in load testing. A very enthusiastic crowd. I look forward to it next year."
-- Don Doane and Willie Williams, OpenDemand Systems, Inc (Sponsor)

"Some of the things I don't use, like Java, but I've learned a lot about what's coming up. So it's given me things to think about."
-- Lisa Myers, graduate student, USDA

I can't wait to come next year.
-- Samuel Smith, attendee

Well, Samuel, neither can I. And I hope you'll all join us.
