80 Percent Hate Flash?

Dec 27, 2003
In late October, Anna Murray, President e*media inc., surveyed 579 respondents that didn't work in marketing on two sites, one with an inane musical Flash intro and the other that was pure HTML but much more informative. Eighty percent of those taking the survey said they hated the Flash site (I wonder why?). In November, Sherpa Marketing published a blog entry that took this to a more radical conclusion: 80% of consumers hate Flash. The conclusions, of course, do not match the research, and John Dowdell and others have a fun time telling them off. The whole argument brings up some great thoughts on usability and the uses of Flash on the Web, and how it's seen by consumers.
