Macromedia Introduces New Version of Macromedia Director Software and a Revolution in 3D Content Design

Macromedia Inc has unveiled Macromedia Director 8.5 Shockwave Studio, the latest version of its system for the creation of interactive, rich media and 3D content for the Internet. The new version incorporates Intel Corp's 3D Graphics software to offer enhanced 3D authoring capabilities to users. It also includes the latest version of the Shockwave Multiuser Server and support for both Macromedia Flash 5 and streaming Real Media content. Shockwave Multiuser Server 3 offers faster communication than the earlier version and gaming with multi-user Shockwave content.

Editor's Note: As seen at UCON 2001 by our NewsDesk Editor, S. Malkah Cohen, this new product release "has all the earmarks of a revolution." The new W3D file format is finding immediate acceptance by the studios producing such images, with 80% of Macromedia's independent developers already assigning this as the in-house standard. Since these developers also represent quite a substantive majority in this field, this is important information for ColdFusion developers to keep in mind as well.
