July 28, 2003 -- Ektron released Ektron CMS300 version 3.0, further continuing its rapid pace of delivering innovative and scaleable approaches to Web content management. This version of Ektron's XML content management solution offers a new online image editor, Ektron WebImageFX, (the first full-featured browser-based tool for image manipulation,) along with new Calendar and Forms Modules. These features offer the convenience of image access and editing; forms creation, deployment and use; and robust calendar functionality directly within the content management system. With these additions, Ektron's system delivers ease-of-use advantages and efficiencies, especially for intranet environments.

Ektron CMS300 is the first scalable, easy-to-use, browser-based XML content management system. It organizes, simplifies and automates the way Web content is authored, edited, published, managed and reused -- for public sites, corporate and departmental intranets, extranets, CRM systems, and more. The system ships with Ektron eWebEditPro+XML, a browser-based WYSIWYG editor that enables organizations to quickly and affordable leverage the power of XSLTs, schemas and Smart Web Forms.

"Ektron CMS300 offers quick and easy entry into XML content management, and is also attractive for XML-centric organizations seeking new ways to involve business end-users with the use and reuse of structured and unstructured data," said Bill Trippe, senior editor of The Gilbane Report, a publication devoted to content management. "The new WebImageFX is truly a first-of-its-kind offering, and a logical extension for Ektron, which delivers CMS solutions known for rapid deployment, flexible customization and low total-cost-of-ownership."

WebImageFX (see the article above) ships in Ektron CMS300. It is the industry's first full-featured image editor for the browser and, as such, eliminates challenges of switching to and from client-based tools to view, access and manipulate images. WebImageFX delivers functionality similar to commonly used Windows-based graphics applications (blur, brightness, sharpen, crop, erase, draw, rotate/flip, zoom, lines, shapes, text, etc.)

With Ektron's Calendar Module and Forms Module, users can create, use and manage an unlimited number of event calendars or forms for various needs within Web sites or browser-based applications. Calendar presentation parameters can be specified (height and width, viewable weekend dates, etc.,) and colors and fonts can be controlled by stylesheets. Hyperlinks are easily added to content within the calendar. The Forms Module delivers a new forms toolbar built into Ektron eWEP+XML. Users can create forms-based interfaces with any number of elements (drop down lists, check boxes, radio buttons, text area fields, etc.) Developers add a calendar or form by inserting a single tag into a Web page.

"Ektron's focus is providing CMS solutions that are easy to integrate, easy to use, and easy to extend," said Ektron CEO Bill Rogers. "We continually add features to make products more attractive for higher-end deployments. Ektron's solutions meet the majority of content management needs for the vast majority of projects. We are a leading vendor poised to serve the masses."
