Ektron Offers Personalized CMS Learning Sessions

Jul 19, 2003
July 15, 2003 -- To help organizations understand content management, and to assist them in understanding the immediate value that can be achieved from a content management system (CMS,) Ektron announces new personalized CMS learning sessions. These free, no-obligation Web-based sessions include a general discussion of content management and an overview of the broad CM spectrum. Attendees see their own website being managed within a browser-based Ektron CMS, discuss unique needs, and talk with a content management specialist about the best CMS option for their needs (enterprise or Web CM, document management, digital asset management, etc.)

Content management reduces Web operation expenses by automating the process of creating, editing, publishing, organizing, and managing content for Internet, intranet, and extranet sites. Since content management systems have been available for a relatively short time, many individuals have difficulty understanding how they work and how they deliver benefits.

According to a recent Jupiter Research report, more than 61% of companies with a content management system currently in place still update their Web sites manually.

"Most organizations today still find content management systems difficult to manage or use," says Ektron CEO Bill Rogers. "Content management does not need to be complex to be powerful. We show how easy it can be to use a CMS and how it can deliver true business value. To do this, it's ideal to show organizations their own content -- to actually show their FAQ, news or events page being modified in real time."

Many CMS demonstrations are designed for technical professionals to highlight installation, configuration, customizability or back-end interoperability. Yet the CMS is not designed solely for technical staff. One purpose of a CMS is to enable non-technical professionals to author, edit, and publish their own Web content.

"Marketing professionals do not want to see a system's installation," says Rogers. "Instead, they must understand how a CMS streamlines business processes to simplify their lives. We're offering these sessions to further educate the market about content management. By showing personal content being managed in a CMS, we remove a barrier that often prevents organization-wide understanding of content management."

For these sessions, Ektron creates a copy of the organization's Web site within an Ektron CMS and shows how easy the system is to deploy and use -- from the points of view of developers, site and system administrators, and content contributors. Advanced content management functionality is demonstrated, including cascading style sheets, dynamically created navigation, RSS syndication, WYSIWYG XML authoring and Web services-enabled operations.

Ektron personalized CMS learning sessions are free of charge and can be scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm EST. Organizations can gather a diverse audience to participate via the Web. For information, visit http://www.ektron.com/info/custom.
