Flash Communications Server MX

Flash Communications Server may have seemed like a stealth product, but lately it's been popping up in a number of places without a lot of fanfare. It's being used in the Breeze Live product (recently released in October of this year). Every week, it is the forum for a meeting of Macromedia User Group (MMUG) managers who are working on a portal project to share information more easily. And now we've come across two press releases of products that have come out that use Flashcomm.

On December 10th, Userplane announced that it has developed a streaming video library of television episodes -- via the Macromedia Flash Communications Server MX -- for Red Bull's "Re: Evolution of Sports" program. The show focuses on the unique lifestyle of the athletes who play extreme sports, and thanks to Flashcomm, the fully-streamed episodes can be viewed at www.reevolution.tv.

Then, on December 11th, DataJungle Software, announced the release of its latest product, DataJungle Annotator. This product extends Cognos PowerPlay, a business analysis program, with powerful annotation and collaboration functionality. With Annotator, users can add text and audio commentary, post questions, links, and attachments against PowerPlay views or even individual data elements in a view. These annotations can be saved for personal reference or shared with colleagues throughout the enterprise. The ability for users to post and listen to audio annotations is provided through Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX.

I'm happy to see Flashcomm being used in some public places. You can read more about it in the news articles below.
