New Technologies: Customized Viruses to Kill Cancer

Feb 20, 2005
Viruses infect host cells and trick them into replicating the virus until the host cell bursts, releasing the new viruses. After 10 years of lab work, researchers have started the first human trials with oncolytic, or cancer-bursting, viruses. These bugs reproduce in and destroy only cancer cells, leaving normal cells alone. This exciting new development is covered in this article in the MIT Technology Review.
