Adult Magazine Sues Google and Amazon over Naked Thumbnails
by Michael Dinowitz
This is a perfect article, because it showcases the flea biting the elephant, hoping that the elephant will give the flea a crumb for it to go away. The flea, in this case, is Perfect 10, an adult website, which is accusing the elephant (Google and Amazon) of indexing and copying their thumbnails for the express purpose, not of indexing, but of drawing traffic to their websites and making money off of other sites who were using Perfect 10's images illegally. Apparently, Perfect 10's images, which are for sale on their site, were copied by other sites, which in turn were indexed by Google, Amazon, and other search engines. Perfect 10 says they don't have the money to sue everyone, and can't sue the pirates because they are based in other countries. Therefore, they've decided to sue Google and Amazon -- the ones with lots of money to hire very expensive lawyers who will probably simply settle out of court rather than actually go through the motions. Which is why I started this article in such a way. This is, in my opinion (as I am not a lawyer) a totally frivolous lawsuit designed to get a name out there and make a little fast cash.
