Publisher News: Apress

Besides "Foundations of AJAX," which is already out, Apress has three more books on AJAX in the works (listed at the end of the article). They've also started their own Superindex, which allows readers to search their books for keywords or code snippets, to help make their lives easier. And believe it or not, it's free!

I tried it out. It let me search for a keyword (in my case "ColdFusion") and then gave me a list of books in which the word appeared with about two lines of text around the reference. There were only three pages of references (which surprised me). The Superindex then gave me the ability to view the page in question, and to go one page backward and forward in the text.

Apress seems to have a few kinks to work out. I saw special characters peppering the page I viewed, and the page forward feature only gave me the first word on the next page. I was looking at the text without images or graphics... Still, this could be a big help to developers and writers alike. Currently, Apress has 300 books indexed.

Apress is also touting their "new, improved" Ablogs, where their writers, editors and reviewers share their musings... I have no idea of the quality, as I haven't had a chance to review them.
