Adobe/CF News Brief (May 5, 2006)
by Ryan Hartwich
Adobe/Macromedia Website Redesign -- Monday, May 1st brought a new look to
the Adobe and Macromedia websites. Macromedia.com all but disappeared with
the Adobe redesign. The transition of the Adobe website to the Macromedia
'Dylan' platform brought an overhaul of the basic look and feel and a
merging of products, design and developer centers and approximately half of
the international stores. Adobe users will see the biggest change while
historical Macromedia users might not even notice the subtle alterations.
Overall the look and search capability have been streamlined and we can
thank the 'Day Next' web crew for a good job and minimal bugs. If you find
bugs with the new website or wish to express your thoughts on it, email
webfeedback@adobe.com.
JRun (Cheetah) Beta -- A number of Adobe staff have blogged this week about
the upcoming beta for JRun. This is important since ColdFusion typically
runs on a JRun application server (and presumably Scorpio will run on the
new JRun). Interested serious beta testers should contact Vijayan Reddy at
vrreddy@adobe.com.
Fusebox 5 Alpha 3 (
http://corfield.org/cat/fusebox) -- Fusebox 5 is actively being developed, and the Alpha 3 version will be released later today to the Fusebox 5 list. The project is under the able management of Sean Corfield. A number of key bloggers have already ported their websites to the new code base.
Frappr - Worldwide CF Developers - Interested in seeing where almost 400 of
your ColdFusion peers live? If you are a masochist who loves terribly slow,
CPU intensive AJAX sites, check out
http://www.frappr.com/cfdevelopers. Frappr is a cool idea in need of a faster interface. Maybe Adobe should talk to them about porting
to the Flash Platform and Flex in the future.
Cartweaver Bug Fix (www.cartweaver.com) - Cartweaver, a cross-language (CF/PHP/ASP) E-commerce/shopping cart application, has had a security-based bug fix released. If you are a user of this popular tool you may want to
make sure that you are running the latest version.
