In time for MAX 2009, Adobe has released ColdFusion 9 as well as Beta 2 of ColdFusion Builder, their new IDE.

A quick list of some of ColdFusion 9's New features:

  • Microsoft Office file interoperability — Dynamically generate Office documents, read, create and update Excel spreadsheets, and programmatically create PDFs from both PowerPoint and Word files.
  • Object-Relational Mapping Features — ORM for database independence; you can use ColdFusion Builder's WYSIWYG interface.
  • ColdFusion as a Service — Many of ColdFusion's Enterprise services are now available to SOAP and AMF. This includes CFCHART, CFDOCUMENT, CFIMAGE, CFMAIL, CFPDF, and CFPOP. You can also sandbox these services for greater security.
  • Adobe AIRĀ® local/remote database synchronization — In an AIR application, when your user takes the data offline, how do you resolve conflicts and synchronize changes between the database on the client and the server? ColdFusion 9 now does this, using SQLLite in the client and ORM on the server.
  • New Ajax controls — A multitude of new controls, including mapping, multimedia player, multifile upload, accordion navigation, progress indicator, confirmations, alerts, buttons, and sliders, available via CFML tags and attributes. Leverages the new Ext JS 3.0 library.
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Integration — The new CFSHAREPOINT tag lets you expose data from Microsoft Office SharePoint web services to a ColdFusion application.
  • Server Manager — A central console for all of ColdFusion 9's Admin capabilities lets you perform changes across multiple servers.
  • Tighter Integration with Adobe's Flash Platform — Faster Flash Remoting will make things much easier when doing Flex applications with a ColdFusion backend.
