I have seen some public debate recently about the status of the Fusion Authority Quarterly Update and Flex Authority journals. One of our subscribers asked on his blog: "Is Flex/Fusion Authority Dead?".
I'm happy to state that we are very much alive. We are still publishing our journals. Flex Authority Volume 2 Issue 1 just came out, and Fusion Authority Volume 3 Issue 2 is just about to ship. Behind the scenes, we've been hard at work, keeping our noses to the grindstone preparing the next issues of both journals.
Along the way, we've had a lot of unforeseen problems and delays. And we were silent. Silence breeds confusion, and we apologize for that. From now on, we will endeavor to be more open about what's going on, in order to prevent future misunderstandings.
Out of economic necessity, we will ship our future journals in PDF format only. Be assured that it will be the same top-notch content that we hope you've come to expect from our authors. An email will go to every print subscriber with the details and options pertinent to his or her subscription. We will go to a true quarterly schedule, so that you won't have to wait so long to get your articles.
We hope you'll stick with us. We've got a lot of positive changes in the works for FAQU and Flex Authority. We have also added several members to our crew:
Leif Wells is the new Editor-in-Chief of Flex Authority, beginning with the just-published Volume 2 issue 1. Leif comes to the job with a great deal of enthusiasm and love for the Flex community, and he's already hard at work on Volume 2 Issue 2 (due out in December 2009) and Volume 3 Issue 1 (due out in March 2010). He has posted a new publication schedule on his blog. You can read more about his vision for Flex Authority in his recent editorial in Flex Authority Volume 2 Issue 1.
Adam Tuttle, Tom Chiverton and Jacob Munson were all Assistant Editors on FAQU Volume 3 Issue 2. Their editorial input was much appreciated and helped save the sanity of our Sr. Assistant Editor, Dana Tierney [ed note: Sanity? What's that? -Dana]. Adam and Tom were also Assistant Editors on Flex Authority Volume 2 Issue 1.
Mark Mandel has stepped up to bat as a new Technical Editor on FAQU, starting with Volume 3 Issue 2. Sean Corfield is still our beloved Curmudgeon, and does a great job, but Mark's assistance lets him have more free time (free time — what's that?) with his wife, Jay.
I now have help as well, in the form of a new Co-Editor-in-Chief. May I introduce Charlie Griefer, who has for several years been a wonderful Staff Writer on FAQU. Charlie is going to help me edit and put out future issues of the journal. We are already working on Volume 4 Issue 1 (the ninth issue of FAQU), which will be out in January 2010. Charlie is an active poster on House of Fusion, an active blogger, the founder and owner of the #coldfusion channel on Dalnet, and manager of the East Bay ColdFusion User Group. I am so excited to be working with him.
We all feel that the future is bright for FAQU and Flex Authority, and we look forward to bringing you more great ColdFusion and Flex content. If you are interested in writing for FAQU, please email me (editor AT fusionauthority DOT com) or Charlie (charlie AT fusionauthority DOT com). Those interested in writing for Flex Authority should email Leif (leif DOT wells AT flex-authority DOT com).
