WebReview Article Discusses Backend?
I'd love to say the article below is a good one, but I can't for a number of reasons. While it did contain some basic facts about server-side programming (and was obviously meant to be a very introductory article on Web programming for those who are just getting started), the sweeping generalizations made in the article about all the languages discussed (Perl, ColdFusion, PHP, ASP, JSP and Java Servlets) didn't do any of them justice. The author reiterated the two misconceptions that have plagued ColdFusion for the longest time. These are the allegation that: a. ColdFusion requires a substantial monetary investment to get started (at this point, one can get started with ColdFusion Express) and b. that ColdFusion does not scale. Neither statement can be deemed true, with proper planning and good code.
Also, the article touts the Perl community as being open-source, but doesn't discuss the ColdFusion community (or any of the others) at all. Open-source does not necessarily mean best.
