Two Looks at Sitespring

Jun 18, 2001
Interactive Week had Charles Babcock take a look at Macromedia's new software to support Web design groups, Sitespring. Among the problems this new tool addresses is the fact that "Sometimes ... the designer who maps out a graphical idea of what the client wants comes up with a different look. The programmer responsible for the site's code may vary the wishes of both client and designer to fit what he can actually produce. Coordinating these diverging views falls to the project manager."

Sitespring uses the conventions of the Web to coordinate site development, producing a site for each project, where each team member gets a home page with assigned tasks, e-mail and related discussion threads.

The system also provides a place where everyone can see their tasks and access discussion threads, capturing important exchanges on decisions for the project, and even providing a capability for file sharing.

Then ZDNet News' Andreas Pfeiffer looked at the potential impact on workflow management of Macromedia's new Sitespring software: "The ability to manage complex workflow situations has been one of the main selling points of high end editorial and content management systems, but it seemed to be of little concern for smaller workgroups and individual users. This is about to change." Sitespring's manageable price tag and focus on much smaller groups shows that Macromedia is aware of the changing trends and is placing itself ahead of the emerging market.
