Bug Toaster
Now you can do something proactive to help software makers narrow down where
problems lie with their software. Visit Bugtoaster.com and download their
system tray applet. When a crash occurs, it stands in for Doctor Watson and
intercepts the crash information. At that point you are automatically
prompted to allow bug toaster to upload the report. All crash reports are
aggregated, so you can see which Windows applications are crashing, which
.dll's seem to be the problem and what platform the problem is occurring on.
Visiting the site and going through their crash statistics is a very
educational experience. Bug toaster can do a lot for free, but a software vendor who wants specific analysis would have to pay for bug
toaster. Nevertheless, even for free, developers can start to get the idea
there may be a problem with a particular component of their software on a
particular Windows platform.
