Now the ColdFusion and Linux communities can catch a landmark presentation: Michael Dinowitz's talk on ColdFusion for Linux at the Linux User Group Meeting on Tuesday, October 12, 1999. WatchIT.com (www.watchit.com), a well-known publisher of videos for the IT community, has produced a recording of the talk, and is showing it on their new site, www.CFLinux.com. (See also our coverage of the actual meeting in NewsWatch.)
Though rough in spots, Mr. Dinowitz's presentation shows his strong interest and conviction in ColdFusion as a robust and versatile language and application, as well as his command of its complexities. The video highlights three code examples from the Allaire ColdFusion documentation in his succinct explanation to illustrate ColdFusion's capabilities and its limitations.
Mr. Dinowitz starts out with a slightly scattered introduction, but he soon finds his focus, and his excitement, interest and sheer knowledge of ColdFusion comes across in the video. While meant to introduce the Linux users (the audience at this meeting) to ColdFusion as a viable development platform, this video is a succinct, excellent introduction to ColdFusion and is highly recommended for beginners and for Michael Dinowitz fans.
One thing that was clear from the video was that the Linux platform can and does support ColdFusion, opening up the possibilities of the Linux platform to the ColdFusion community, and the capabilities of ColdFusion to the Linux community.
At the end of the presentation, Mr. Dinowitz stressed that, with ColdFusion, "You can DO stuff, so go out there and DO!"
