If you're feeling overwhelmed in the new, Spectra-centered Allaire, or you really want to learn how to use the latest of Allaire's development tools, don't despair. Instead, point your web browser at http://www.figital.com, install your Spectra software, and read what Scott Fitchet has to say.
In his "Hello, Spectra!" series, Scott takes his readers step-by-step through the creation of an application in Allaire Spectra. His style is clear and concise, and if the rest of this series proves as enlightening and entertaining as the first two parts, the ColdFusion world will have another fine resource at its disposal.
The first installment, Initializing the Object Store, walks the reader through the creation of a new data source and sets it up for use with Spectra. The second installment, Objects and Properties, describes the 'objects' needed for the application. A third installment, Pages and Containers, is planned and should be out soon.
An added benefit: At the end of this series, the example website that Scott is building (The Open Source Database Center at www.osdb.org) will go live. And Scott hints to more advanced tutorials--something to look forward to.
