Article Review: ColdFusion/ASP Development Platform Comparison Good PR for ColdFusion
In the March 2000 issue of ComputerUser, Cass Brewer discusses choosing a development system for successful web development in his article, "Webmaster: Development architecture you can live in." In the course of this discussion, he compares two very specific architectures: Allaire's ColdFusion with Apache Server on Linux and Microsoft's ASP with Internet Information Server (IIS) on NT Server. He gives a fair comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of Apache/Linux and IIS/NT, as well as ColdFusion and ASP, in terms of development time, ease of use, affordability, tech support, etc. ColdFusion comes out ahead in development time/ease of use and cost of tech support, and ASP comes out ahead in number of trained personnel and the Microsoft name branding. Michael Smith of TeraTech, Inc., provides the quotes supporting ColdFusion in the article. Congratulations, Michael!
The article is good as a starting off point when planning your development architecture, but it does not attempt to be a complete and full comparison of development systems and platforms, or of ColdFusion and ASP. For more extensive research, you'll have to search elsewhere.
