Business Week was very up front about the recent two-day denial-of-service attack on the site of the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Coordination Center at Carnegie Mellon University, likening it to "the fire station burning down." Written for the lay reader, it clearly outlines both how such an attack is pulled off, including the hijacking of "innocent" private computers to power the attack, and what can, should and must be done to prevent such hijacking and to protect vital systems.
