Bug in Microsoft JVM

Jul 10, 2005

Summary by S. Isaac Dealey

Persuant to a legal settlement with Sun Microsystems, Microsoft must terminate all support for their Java Virtual Machine (JVM), including security fixes, by December 31, 2007. Until then, Microsoft provides ongoing updated security information while urging users to adopt a JVM provided by Sun Microsystems. The company confirmed that a recently reported vulnerability in the Javaprxy.dll used to debug the Microsoft JVM may cause Internet Explorer to fail, although other sources believe it may also result in arbitrary code execution. Microsoft has provided several suggested workarounds to disable the feature, although the impending termination of support may make a fix unlikely.
