Gateways in Blackstone

Jul 03, 2004

Tim Buntel's blog entry on the new event gateways capability that is being built into Blackstone sparks much debate. An event gateway is a service that can wait for and communicate with any protocol and connection service that is on the Net, not just HTTP calls from a webserver. This means that it can respond to any attempt to communicate with the ColdFusion server over any port. This can be through the mail port, USENET, news, or anything else. Comments on Tim's blog include concerns such as security and the use of these gateways on shared hosting servers.
